Leave of Absence

Choose how leave of absence requests work in your server.

Last updated: November 4, 2026

1. Where to find it

Open Leave of Absence › Settings in your panel. Settings needs the Members permission; Overview and History need Manage LOAs. Change what you need and press Save Changes.

The Leave of Absence pages are being built step by step. These settings are saved now and are used as the request system arrives.

2. General Settings

3. Duration Settings

4. Message Customization

LOA Submission Mention Role picks the roles (up to 5) that are mentioned when a request is submitted.

Members get a direct message when they submit a request, cancel it, or when it is approved or denied. Grande has a default message for each one. With Grande+ you can customize all four from the same page, and send yourself a test copy. These variables work in them: {discord-server-name}, {reason}, {user}, and {reviewer} (approved and denied only), plus the time variables {time}, {timet}, {timeT}, {timed}, {timeD}, {timef}, {timeF} and {timeR}.

5. Turning it on and off

Leave of Absence starts switched off. The first time you open it, press Enable Leave of Absence. To turn it off, untick Leave of Absence Enabled at the top of Settings. It saves straight away, a cover appears over Overview, History and Settings, and everything you set is kept for when you turn it back on.

6. Requesting leave (members)

Members open Settings › Manage LOA on their Grande account page, pick a server that has Leave of Absence on, and fill in the reason, when the leave starts (on approval or on a specific date) and the end date. Your Settings decide what is required: reason, end date, the shortest and longest leave, and how long they wait between requests. A member can have one pending or active request at a time and cannot send another until it is reviewed, cancelled or ended. While a request is pending it shows under My Requests, where it can be cancelled. Once it is approved, the active leave shows at the top of the page, with an End leave of absence button if your server allows staff to end their own leave. They get a direct message when they send or cancel a request.

7. History

Open Leave of Absence › History to see past and completed leaves, newest first. Use Filter by Member to show one person. Press a leave to open it: you see the reason and a timeline of when it was submitted, approved or denied (with the reviewer and their reason), started and ended.

8. Reviewing requests

When someone requests leave, Grande posts it in your Leave of Absence channel (set in Discord Integration), pinging the LOA Submission Mention Role if you picked one, with a Manage LOAs button. Open Leave of Absence › Overview, expand the request and press Approve or Deny. Approval reasons are optional; a denial reason is required if Require Denial Reason is on. You cannot review your own request. Approving gives the member the On LOA role and the LOA nickname, and blocks their shifts if Disallow Shifts is on. The leave ends on its end date, when a reviewer presses End leave, or when they join the game if that setting is on. The role and nickname are then put back. The member gets a direct message and a notification in Grande when their request is approved or denied. Anyone with the Manage LOAs permission can do all of this; give it in Roles.

9. The /loa list command

Type /loa list in your Discord server to see everyone who is on leave right now, with their start and end dates and reason. Only people with the Manage LOAs permission can use it, and the answer is only shown to them.
